  Allana Hines Stepp, Class of 1964, had an approximately 15-20 minute phone chat with Mr. Finnegan today. He missed our reunion because he was in the hospital and/or recovering. He would have liked to have visited with all of us. He is 91 years old, in a wheelchair, but still likes to keep-in-touch and be socially active.   Here in Albuquerque now and trying to stay away from trouble at Gallup. Still waiting for Social Security to be "reviewed". Although, "payments" have stopped I still get General Assistance. It's hard since last time I was in Lawndale, CA and it was 1999. Now, it is different. Second time around. So, just waiting, but, meantime did some "work" for the Salvation Army, little bit. I had the pleasure of visiting Patsy and John Brierley in Hermosa Beach, a great lunch at Fritto Misto and an interesting tour of the downtown district and the new historical mural program. I could not want for better company or a more interesting outing! Check out the murals if you find yourself in the quaint town of Hermosa Beach. Happy 40th anniversary Class of 1976!

  You may remember that some time ago, the Paula Zahn show reached out to us about the murder of Lennox High School Class of 76 Alumni, Alina Casteleiro. This tragic event happened in Hawthorne, in the early 90's.
  
  Several months ago, I promised to let you know when this particular segment would air.
  
  So, according to Cristina Gugiano
  who is the Coordinating Producer for the show "On the Case with Paula Zahn", the confirmed air date for the episode about Alina (and her roommate) is September 11th, 2016 at 10pm (Pacific Time). The episode is titled "Deceiving Appearances" on the Investigation Discovery Channel. In South Orange County, if Cox is your cable provider, this is channel 88.

  The years continue to pass... Today I explained to some folks much, much younger than I am that the Capitol Records building was designed and built to look like a stack of records on a turntable, the spire representing the diamond stylus needle. After a few puzzled looks and a "what?" it became quite obvious, peeps under twenty don't know how records were played -- I Am Old.   Sad News received via email originally from Mr. George Key's daughter, she writes: "Hello, I am writing to let you know that my father, George Key, passed away peacefully at home in the comfort and love of our family circle on Tuesday, October 14. His race is run and we rejoice in his victory in Jesus. Truly, "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints...his love endures forever." We are having a celebration of life at our son's church, Rolling Hills Covenant, on Friday October 24 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be at their north campus which is across the street from the large campus on PV Drive. It would be an honor to have any Cougars there who are able to attend. You should know that Hawthorne High was keeping Dad busy right up to the end..,his physical therapist, Tim, was a gentle, kind, skilled Cougar!   wow..just read mr. calder died ..... there not enogh great words to say about this man.....he bring new meaning to selfless....i'm so saddened of the passing of mr. calder....i remember when we took picks for the my 1971 year book track team i gave the peace symbol on my knee he was pissed off i did this..... ralph davidson said to give the piece sign and i did sure miss mr. calder and hearing ralph passed away also....what a great baseball player and just a great lennox soul.....we were small but were tough.....no one messed with use back in the day.....were ever we are were still lancers..........forever

  I received word today that classmate John Doherty had a heart attack and died a week ago. So I'm guessing that was October 15. He lived in Boulder City, NV by Las Vegas and a search of the local newspapers has not turned up an obituary at this time.

  Today i'd like to take a moment to thank Kathy Secan for the assistance she provided me 33 years ago. Although I had several part-time jobs up until that point, she prepared me for an interview for my first full-time got-to-be-interviewed-for position. I still remember the large stylish office of the general manager and the comment he made about the way I folded my letter of introduction. Based on his schooling, there was only one proper way to fold a letter and place it in an envelope -- Secan's Way was it. I must mention that I was not her student at the time she mentored me and that I had graduated the summer before! As Lancers, fortunate Lancers, we had the finest mentors. Many of my coworkers can't even tell a tale about their "school days" as their schools were either too big or too callous to be so personal. Thankful, I am, for all of our "peeps" that made it an exceptional experience. Be Well Lancers! Thank You Kathy Secan!

  With great sadness this is to let you know that George Huber passed away today....Friday, March 26th. George was 95 years old, Perhaps several classmates will remember George as the maintenance man at Buford for many years. George and Millie (deceased) had three daughters: Sandy Huber Bauer Class 1961, Linda Huber Hoogerhyde Class 1965 and Bev Huber Santos Class 1971. Funeral arrangements are pending.

I always wondering where life led her after leaving LHS. Hopefully it was she who led life. ­Submitted by Robyn Trickel Dowd, Class of 1968 Mrs. Lynch was our senior class sponsor. At first when I learned and accepted I had to work with her I was nervous for she had this look about her. However, once I got to know her and gained her respect as Class President she was very supportive and a very funny lady. I gained a lot from her guidance and so did the class of 72. I am so glad I got to know her better. ­Submitted by Tracy Lane Fjelstad Class of 1972 Mrs. Lynch was both caring and exacting with her students, and was never one to suffer fools gladly. I was in honors English with her those many years ago, and still remember her with great affection. She did a wonderful job of imparting her love of the language and of literature to her classes, for which we thank her. ­Submitted by Sandy Craig Kurtz, class of '66 Oh my gosh, I am so sorry to hear of Mildred Lynch's demise. What a woman! What a teacher! My sister ran into her a few years back and confirmed that Mildred was the same as ever: strong, determined and funny(she was attempting to load a grandkid's Xmas gift bicycle into her car and let's remember she was getting up there in age) And, of course, Mildred was still wearing her classic(albeit slightly dorky) but ever-proper "teacher" clothes. She was so inspiring, so funny and so no- nonsense. She use to insist that none of us needed more than four hours of sleep--that sleep was over-rated and a waste of time. What energy! She was quite the busy one and quite the giving one. I remember her lovely home that the senior honors girls were invited to for tea. It seemed so elegant to us lowly adolescent female Lawndalians. I also remember one time I objected to the reading of some war-depicting novel in honor's English(it was the 70's.) I eventually got an alternative reading assignment but she put me through the paces of going to the administration over it. Another time I had the audacity to knit in her class while she was lecturing--she was livid and another trip to the administration ensued..But I never held any of this against her. It taught me if you buck the system, you gotta learn to navigate it. And she never held any of my shenanigans against me. She was so lovely and so stern but so fair. And what an original! She was also a published author at least of one biography. I also remember when she and Nancy Streeter were best friends and how cute and dedicated these 2 little old-fashioned English teacher ladies were as plotted to lead the English department they way they thought was best! May they both REST IN PEACE if that is what the choose to do. Somehow I picture Mildred not happy unless she is still lecturing and peering over her reader glasses at some hapless student... trying to help the light dawn for the student about some obtuse literary passage. ­Submitted by karen pell kuchinski Because of Mildred Lynch, one of the most caring and stern teachers I've ever had, I am now a successful court reporter in San Diego Superior Court. She enlightened me to the magic of the written word, and it obviously sparked something in me to go to court reporting college. Anyone who took her comparative lit classes were soon exposed to The Classics and some of the best authors and storis of all time. I was in his Drama class for two years and he was one of my favorite teachers. He took a special interest in all his students. I will always remember his encouragement and good wishes. Sincerest condolences to his family.

  I was talking to Lennox teacher Elmer Ramsey last week and he let me know that he wrote the music for the school song and teacher Carrol Hauser wrote the words. I had never heard that before. Mr Ramsey now a young 80, plans to come to the reunion in April. It will be good to see him.

  Mr. Hauser was a Good Guy. This 1959 freshman english student remembers his dedication to grammar, literature and his students. Every time I hear a news personality refer to " these ones " or " those ones " I remember Mr. Hauser. " There are these, and there are those but there are no these ones or those ones." My kids had it drilled into them at the age of four. I'm sure a teacher has no stronger legacy than the respect of their former students. Rest in Peace, Mr. Carroll Hauser.
