Denise Lynne Raits, age 77, of Marianna, FL, lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at her residence.

Denise was born in Inglewood, CA on October 3, 1945 to her parents, Stephen Michael Lucas and Mamie Stawffer. She worked in the Jackson County School District as an Elementary school teacher and was a member of the Pilot Club in Marianna.

She is survived by her two sons, David and Dan; her daughter-in-law, Lori; her granddaughter, Valerie; and her sister, Donna. Her husband, Eric Raits, Class of 1960, who passed away in 2018, also from cancer. They both loved the outdoors and being on the water, whether a river, lake, sea, or the gator waters of Florida, it was the great peaceful serene place to spend their time when not with their kids and grandkids.

Denise was a very special person and her loss will be felt by many whose lives she touched. Her time here has ended; may she sleep peacefully with the angels.

No services are planned at this time. Memorialization will be my cremation.

Her friend, Kristi McKay wrote on her Obituary site wall:

Denise taught us how to eat shrimp, enjoy jazz music and to laugh through difficult times. She was a life long educator and passionate about Dave and Dans (family) pursuits. Donna, I am glad you were there with her! I will miss her very much and will treasure my memories of her in Utah and Florida.
